Not Measuring Up

I answered a question recently with the reply “Most kids go to bed around 7:30.” What is that supposed to mean? Is it a type of weird standard I measure myself by? On top of that, do I want our boys in the “most kids” category? Is that how they should measure themselves as they get older? How crazy!

Yes, 7:30 is a reasonable time for our boys to go to bed, but is it a reasonable standard for me to measure myself or, even worse, them by? Ugh…I’ve forgotten the Gospel again.

As God’s child, I’ve been declared free. The measuring has been done, and I didn’t measure up. Now, though, thanks to Jesus taking my place, He offers me freedom. I can quit measuring and know I’m loved. And I can offer my boys that same gift; the gift of knowing “it is finished.”
