It’s Halloween week. The boys and I are pumped! Spider webs, costumes, candy, pumpkins…Fall is here!
So to embrace this week of scariness I plan on sharing 3 things in 3 posts that scare me.
Don’t laugh. Don’t be surprised. Don’t judge my shallowness. I’m gonna be completely honest!
Fear #1-Not fitting into my jeans.
Yep, I admit it. Don’t worry, I’m not gonna play the “I’m so big. Please feel sorry for me” card. I don’t feel that way. But most days I do get up, step on the scale, and wish for a smaller number.
When I really think about it, there are only 2 times this year when I saw my preferred weight:
1-When we were praying about the adoption of Amelia. Part of the time we were fasting. The other part I just couldn’t eat. After 2 weeks of this I had wiggle room in my jeans (and tear-chapped cheeks).
2-When I had my wisdom teeth out. No solids for a week will definitely loosen the jeans. But boy did the food taste good again once I recovered!
Some days I think I’m normal. Aren’t women wired to think about what they weigh and look like?
Some days I think I’m crazy. Why do I step on the scale every morning?
Recently, I read Lysa TerKeurst’s book Made to Crave. The subtitle is “Satisfying your deepest desire with God, not food.”
Here’s a simple quote I liked.-“So, I’m not on a diet. I’m on a journey with Jesus to learn the fine art of self-discipline for the purpose of holiness.”
It was a super motivational read that I would definitely recommend.
So today, in celebration of admitting this fear (and confessing that I just downed 3 mini-Snickers purchased for trick-or-treaters,) I ordered Made to Crave’s companion devotional.
Ahhh…facing my fears this week. It feels good to take off the mask!
“I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.” (Psalm 139:14)
This is also one of my fears but I let it get out of hand. Don did not like the scales in the bathroom (not enough room he said) so it is no longer a daily routine. My next excuse is I am getting older and everyone gains weights when they get older, Right. I am like Paul “that that I would do I do not.” Okay Tiff. I am going to try along with you. Oh my I hope I do not fail. God help me not to fail.
I got on the scale this morning, and it said LO. I think that means battery, but I took it as a compliment. That was before Caleb’s birthday party where I had frozen pizza and a cupcake. Great start, huh? =) The Made to Crave devotional has been super good. I’m thinking it will help along the way!
