Often I say those 4 words to Jeremy. He immediately knows what I mean.
I am the monkey in the middle of some crazy situation God has placed me in.
Most times when I say the phrase it’s negative. As if God is tossing me and my emotions all over the place.
“Ha! Look how out of control you really are. I’m running this show. And you’re just being tossed around.”
I know…it’s sad. Embarrassing really.
But sometimes that’s how I feel.
Waiting. Unnecessary pain. Why does life have to be so hard?
“Monkey in the middle.”
But lately this verse has been on my mind:
“You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me.” (Psalm 139:5)
Is there any other place I’d rather be? Hemmed in by Him. Behind. Before. Monkey in the middle. Sinner in the middle. Living a life of unexpected grace.
May my heart cry out like Paul’s:
“Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.” (Philippians 3:8a)
Monkey in the middle? Yes! Yes! If it means knowing Him more.
Hem me in, Lord Jesus. I want to know You!
